Biography

Growing up in Montreal, with 4 siblings, Matt was considered the actor in the family, impersonating cartoon characters, singing and making unusual sound effects with his voice. Now you’re probably saying, well aren’t all kids actors? Well, maybe, but he carried this through his teenage years, into adulthood and has never stopped.

Mom was a soprano singer and Dad had the strong baritone voice. Her influence had Matt singing at an early age and playing the drums at 13. He performed his first live gig at a high school variety show at the age of 16 and from that point on, he was hooked.

Matt has been a musician and vocalist for over 25 years for various Pop, Rock cover and original bands thus imitating and performing different voices is his forte. He has attended vocal workshops, professional voice coaching and Classsical voice training with Ontario’s Conservatory of Music. In 2005, he sang lead with an International men’s chorus, Toronto’s Northern Lights, an amazing bunch of extremely talented singers! This experience provides valuable for excellent breath control and range of vocal delivery.

Jeff Healey & Matt Dratva
His brush with fame came one night in 1996, at the renowned Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, when the late, legendary blues/rocker, Jeff Healey came up on stage along side Matt on vocals and performed a couple of numbers together.

For realistic economic reasons, Matt held down a variety of 9-5 office jobs yet never felt quite fulfilled. For years, he often joked about being a professional voice talent but fear, circumstance and procrastination prevented him from going after his dream.

Continuing with his passion for music, singing and performing, in 2005, he decided to research voice over work for the umpteenth time and landed on the site of a local professional voice talent, Todd Schick. It is with sincere thanks to Todd that Matt is finally realizing his dream. With Todd's experience, advice and coaching, the transition into voice over work was smooth and long overdue.

For anyone contemplating a career as a professional voice talent, I highly recommend you visit his site, Todd Schick it has everything you ever wanted to know about the voice over industry and much more.

Matt says, "I truly believe we are all here for a purpose and each and every one of us have something completely unique and special to offer. It took me a long time to figure that out and get off my behind but you know what?……….that doesn’t matter. In the end, what matters is I am living my dream, extremely happy doing what I LOVE and if you follow your heart, you can’t fail. I may have arrived late, but look out voice over world, cuz here I come!"
